The Executive Board of the European Table Tennis Union has selected Jyväskylä as the host city for the 2028 European Junior Table Tennis Championships. Approximately 550 of the continent’s top junior players from more than 40 countries will gather at the new Hippos Arena in July 2028.

Jyväskylä was the fifth most popular conference city in the 2025 national statistics. A total of 39 international scientific meetings, conferences, and congresses were held, attracting 3,988 participants to the city. They were mainly held at the University of Jyväskylä and aimed to share scientific research data and strengthen international scientific networks.

A new visitor study confirms that the impact of Finland’s FIA World Rally Championship event, Secto Rally Finland, on the Central Finland region continues on a steady upward trajectory. The rally is held each year on the iconic gravel stages of Central Finland, with Jyväskylä serving as the event’s host city.

The federal council of the Finnish Athletics Federation (SUL) has granted the 2026 Athletics Championship, the Kaleva Games (Kalevan Kisat), to Jyväskylä. The City of Jyväskylä and the Jyväskylä Field Athletes (JKU) jointly applied for competitions for 2026, which is the 100th anniversary of Harju Stadium. Harju Stadium will be renovated and expanded by the time of the Kaleva Games.
