Official opening hours of the Traffic Park: June 2–August 11, 2026

- Closed on Sundays
Driving time ends 10 minutes before the park closes.
During official opening hours, visitors can ride the city’s pedal cars in the park, and a supervisor is on site.
Outside of opening hours, visitors may ride their own bicycles in the park.

A miniature traffic world has been built in the park, complete with traffic lights and even a gas station. To ensure safe walking and crossing, the park has crosswalks and sidewalks.
Use of the park and driving the pedal cars is free.
The park is best suited for children who are currently learning traffic behavior—that is, children ages 6–12. Toddlers are also welcome when accompanied and supervised by their parents or caregivers.
During the Traffic Park’s opening hours, you can borrow pedal cars of various sizes for children learning traffic rules, as well as tricycles for the youngest members of the family. The park also has a few two- and four-seater cars for riding together with a parent.
You’re welcome to bring your own snacks to the Traffic Park. There are table-and-bench sets set up in the area for picnicking, and you can spread out your own blanket in the park or on the surrounding grassy areas. There is no water supply in the park.
Please be sure to dispose of your snack wrappers in the trash so that the park remains pleasant for others to use as well!
The Viitaniemi and Tuomiojärvi beaches are also within walking distance of the park.
Traffic Park Rules
- If a child is not yet fully familiar with traffic rules, an adult must walk alongside the child to guide and assist them.
- Children are the responsibility of their guardians. Please supervise your children.
- The park is not for dogs. Keep pets on a leash outside the park.
- The Traffic Park is a smoke-free and alcohol-free zone.
- Always follow the instructions given by the instructor.
- At the Traffic Park, you learn and follow traffic rules. Speeding and driving on the grass are prohibited.
- You must always wear a helmet when riding a pedal car or bicycle. If you do not have your own helmet, you can borrow one from an instructor.
- Instructors will announce the length of each driving session. During peak hours, driving sessions are limited to 10 minutes.
- Report any damage to an instructor.
- Repeated violations of the rules may result in a temporary ban from using the park.
A family favorite since the 1960s
At least two generations of Jyväskylä residents have learned about traffic safety at the Viitaniemi Traffic Park. This free program began in the 1960s in an authentic, miniature-scale traffic environment.
The Traffic Park has been one of the favorite destinations for children in Jyväskylä, attracting 15,000 visitors annually.
