Extending the Emptying Interval of a Mixed Waste Bin
The emptying interval of a mixed waste bin for permanently occupied small properties can be extended to eight (8) or twelve (12) weeks under certain conditions.
An extended interval can only be applied for after a waste management contract with Mustankorkea Ltd has entered into force.
This is possible when:
- The amount of mixed waste generated is low
- Recyclable waste is sorted according to local waste management regulations.
- The extended interval must not cause environmental harm, and all waste must fit into the bin between collections.

Temporarily Suspending Waste Bin Emptying
If the suspension lasts up to six months, it is arranged directly with Mustankorkea Ltd. For longer suspensions, a written application must be submitted to the waste management authority, including documented evidence of the reason for non-use.
Temporary suspension of waste bin emptying for a permanently occupied property can be applied for when the property is completely unused (e.g. due to certain health reasons, major renovation, or temporary residence abroad). Staying at a holiday home is not a valid reason to suspend waste collection at a permanent residence.
For holiday homes, emptying can only be suspended if the building is undergoing major renovation.

Applying for a Change to the Waste fee for an unhabitable Building
You can apply for a change to the waste fee when a building located on the property is completely uninhabitable or otherwise entirely unsuitable for residential or leisure use.
The application must include documentation explaining why the building is uninhabitable. Acceptable documentation may include photographs of the building or a condition report prepared by an impartial party.

Reminder about Waste Fee Invoice
Errors in waste fee invoicing can be corrected directly through Mustankorkea's customer service. Waste container emptying fees will not be adjusted or removed retroactively if the emptying has occurred as invoiced and the customer has not reported the necessary changes.
No waste fee will be charged if the waste container has not been emptied due to negligence by Mustankorkea or the transport contractor. The recipient of the invoice must report the negligence to Mustankorkea without delay, within 5 working days.
A written waste fee reminder can be submitted to the waste management authority within 14 days of receiving the invoice. The waste fee must be paid by the due date regardless of the appeal. If the invoice is deemed unjustified as a result of the appeal, any overpaid amount will be refunded with interest.

Self-Treatment of Sewage Sludge
In exceptional cases, the property owner may treat household-generated sewage sludge independently. A notification must be submitted to the waste management authority. Properly treated and hygienized sludge may be spread as fertilizer on the owner’s actively cultivated field. Small-scale joint treatment with a few neighboring properties is also possible under certain conditions.
Sludge bags from small treatment plants and small amounts of greywater sludge may be composted on the property.
