The center of Jyväskylä is surrounded by three lakes belonging to the Tourujoki river basin: Lake Jyväsjärvi, Lake Palokkajärvi, and Lake Tuomiojärvi. These three lakes form the Jyväskylä Kehä Siniset (Blue Loop). The Blue Ring is presented in the city's master plan as areas that will be developed with a focus on recreation, and no new private plots will be zoned for the shore area. The specific goal is to develop the unity, continuity, and attractiveness of the outdoor trails surrounding the lakes.
Jyväsjärvi Blue Loop
The popular Rantaraitti trail around Lake Jyväsjärvi is constantly developing its services. Outdoor fitness stations have been built along the trail, forming Finland's largest outdoor gym complex.
Palokkajärvi Blue Loop
The route mainly follows light traffic lanes, but in Ritoniemi, Palokka, it follows the street network because there is a lot of private land ownership and plots extending to the shore in the shore areas.
Tuomiojärvi Blue Loop
The main focus of long-term development work is the creation of a continuous recreational route. The key areas for development in the Tuomiojärvi Blue Loop area are:
- The Haukanniemi light traffic route and the new light traffic bridge at the northern end
- The Haukkala lakeside trail
- The Savulahti lakeside trail
- The Vasaraisensuo coastal route and the boardwalk crossing the marsh
- Lighting for the Mannisenmäki coastal route
- The Mankola-Saarijärventie coastal route
- The coastal route bypassing Viitaniemi
