Family day care

Kolme lasta leikkii lattialla

Family day care is home-like early childhood education provided in the family day care provider’s home. A family day care group typically consists of about four children. A sensitive caregiver, small group size, and home environment enable an individualized and safe early childhood education day for the child.

Family day care providers also collaborate extensively with other caregivers, giving children opportunities to experience larger group activities.

Municipal family day care providers are located in Tikkakoski, Palokka, Puuppola, Halssila, Jyskä, Kuokkala, Keljonkangas, Säynätsalo, and Korpilahti.

If necessary, a child in municipal family day care will be provided with an alternative care place at another family day care provider’s home or in a daycare center.

Group family day care

Jyväskylä’s group family day care operates at Taulumäentie 45. The premises host two groups, each with 12 children, one childcare worker, and two family day care providers. The groups will continue operating normally until spring 2026, after which the service will end.

For outdoor activities, there is a fenced yard with play equipment.

Play, Music, and Exploring Nature Nearby

Activities in group family day care are child-centered and tailored to individual needs. Small group sizes and a familiar unit provide excellent opportunities for children to learn social skills and build friendships outside their family.

Daily routines include enjoyable activities such as play, music, and exploring nature in the surrounding area. Physical activity is natural for children, and diverse opportunities are provided. The Tuomiojärvi lakeside offers a beautiful setting for various excursions.

Operations follow the Early Childhood Education Act. An individual early childhood education plan is created for each child together with the guardians.

Care time reservations are made in the Edlevo system, where guardians also record authorized pick-up persons and any allergies. Holiday care needs are also managed through Edlevo.

During holiday periods (autumn break, Christmas, winter break, and summer), the group family day care unit is closed, and early childhood education is arranged in a designated daycare center.
