A survey regarding autumn break childcare needs will be conducted from 10.11.-23.11.2025. Families will receive an Edlevo message with instructions on how to report their child’s need for care during the break.

29.12.2025-6.1.2026 early childhood education will be organized centrally. The open daycare centers will be: Savulahti, Kortepohja, Pohjanlampi, Keltinmäki, Kangasvuori, Tapiola

Shift care will be provided in Tapiola daycare center.

Families will be informed of their child’s care location during the christmas break by their own daycare center or family daycare provider.

Early childhood education and care (ECEC) arrangements during holidays

Holiday arrangements are centralized to several daycare centers to ensure safe operations. The list of open daycare centers may change depending on the number of children needing care. More information about holiday arrangements is available from your own daycare center.

The autumn, Christmas, winter, and summer breaks in early childhood education coincide with the breaks in preschool education. During holidays, early childhood education is provided only based on actual need. Families must report their child’s care needs during holidays via the Edlevo app.

Early childhood education services are centralized during holidays to various daycare centers across Jyväskylä. Families will be informed of their child’s holiday care location by their own daycare center.

The quality of early childhood education services in Jyväskylä is regularly assessed, including during holidays. Based on the results, operations are continuously developed to be more goal-oriented and high-quality throughout the year.

Fee discounts during holidays

Families are eligible for a discount on the customer fee during school holidays if full days of absence are reported by the deadline. Only weekdays are eligible for fee discounts.

Holiday Fee Discount Details<
Fee discounts are granted for holidays when absences are reported by the deadline. The discount applies to full days of absence that reduce the monthly hours. Only weekdays are eligible.

If a child’s care need exceeds 85 hours per month, or if the child attends early childhood education in addition to preschool, the fee discount applies to all pre-reported absence days.

If the service need is 1–84 hours/month: The discounted and bookable hours are calculated from 84 hours.

  • One discount day must reduce the monthly hours by 4 hours
  • 5 discount days × 4 hours = 20 hours
  • 84 hours – 20 hours = 64 hours, meaning the maximum number of bookable care hours for the month is 64 hours

In early childhood education, fee discounts on customer payments are granted during preschool and school holidays, as well as during the summer months (1.6.–31.8.). In family daycare, discounts are also granted during the caregiver’s sick leave and compensatory leave days. The discount requires the guardian to report the child’s absence.

For private early childhood education, information about possible fee discount practices can be obtained directly from the daycare center or family daycare provider. Fee discounts are agreed upon in the service contract with the private service provider.
