    Tuesday 01.11.

    • From 18 to 20 Finland-Japan friendship event (invited guests). A networking evening organized by the Embassy of Japan in Finland and City of Jyväskylä for Finland-Japan friends and organizations building connections with Japan.     Wednesday 02.11.

    • At 17, Hiromi Hokkanen plays the traditional Japanese instrument Koto at Jyväskylä's main library, 1st-floor stage. Hokkanen performs two songs: "Itsumo Nando demo" (Always with me) from studio Ghibli anime, Spirited Away, composed by Kimura Yumi, arranged by Oohira Temi, and "Rokudan no Shirabe" by Yatsuhashi Kengyou.
    • From 17:20 to 18:15 Lecture by Juhani Lillberg: "Fascinating Japanese culture". Place: Jyväskylä main library, 1st-floor stage. The previously scheduled lecture "From the temple library to digital applications - A brief overview of Japanese children's literature" has been cancelled due to an unexpected obstacle.
    • Japanese-themed books on display at Jyväskylä's main library
    • Traditional Japanese dolls' exhibition in the children's section of the main library (permanent exhibition). Niiza, Jyväskylä's twin city in Japan, donated these dolls to the City of Jyväskylä.
    • At 19, Jyväskylä Sinfonia, All Saints’ Day concert – For Memories in Taulumäki church (entrance fee). After the concert, it is possible to meet Japanese musicians at the concert venue.

    Thursday 03.11.

    • From 12 to 16, the University of Jyväskylä's Japan Day. The program consists of, for example, experts lecture, students lecture, presentations of diverse traditional cultures, and musical performances. The program is presented by JYU students and Japanese exchange students (under the guidance of Japanese teachers). More details about the University of Jyväskylä's Japan Day program are on the website of the University of Jyväskylä.
    • From 16:45 to 18:15 an Open door for Japan 2 language course by Jyväskylä Adult Education centre. Welcome to follow the study of Japanese! Place: Viitaniemi school, Viitaniementie 20, class 106, 1st-floor. Participants can gather at the front door of Viitaniemi school at 16:40.
    • 17.00-20.00 Open doors: the Kyuheikan Samurai exhibition and on the training hall side you can watch Aikido training from 17-18, Tenshinsho-den Katori Shinto ryu from 18-19 and Takenouchi ryu Bitchuden from 19-20. Place: the hall of Aikiken ry, Cygnaeuksenkatu 9 (basement). 
    • From 18:15 to 19, Japanese language training for 8-12 years old in the lecture hall of the main library, Adult Education Centre.

    Friday 04.11.

    • At 9 a.m., Jyväskylä-Niiza 25 years. Viitaniemi school and the Niiza friendship school online meeting (the school's own event). 
    • From 13:45 to 15:15 and 16 to 17:30, Shodo calligraphy workshops at the Museum of Central Finland. The teacher is Yukina Yamamoto, who lives in Jyväskylä and has over 20 years of experience as a Japanese calligraphy artist. The workshop is free and on Fridays entrance to the museum is free of charge.     Saturday 05.11.

    • From 11:30 to 13 and 14 to 15:30, Shodo calligraphy workshops at the Museum of Central Finland. The teacher is Yukina Yamamoto, who lives in Jyväskylä and has over 20 years of experience as a Japanese calligraphy artist.  The workshop is free, but the entrance to the museum requires buying a ticket. 

    Finland–Japan friendship week in Jyväskylä 31.10- 06.11.2022

    In 2022, we are celebrating the Finnish-Japanese friendship year. You are welcome to attend the event and get to know Japanese culture, art, hobbies, and people in Jyväskylä. Admission to events is free unless it has been stated earlier.

    Background from the Finland-Japan friendship week 2022

    The Embassy of Japan in Finland organizes events in various cities that promote interaction between the people of our countries and the understanding of cultures in honor of the Finnish-Japanese friendship year 2022. The Year of friendship celebrates the first encounters between Finns and Japanese, the earliest of which, based on inscriptions, can be found 230 years ago.

    Jyväskylä-Niiza 25 years

    Jyväskylä and Niiza signed a twin city agreement 25 years ago. The school in Viitaniemi and the school in Niiza will celebrate their cooperation in an online seminar between the schools on Friday 04.11.2022.
