The Jyväskylä Region is favourably located from a geographical point of view. Reaching the Jyväskylä Region is relatively quick and straightforward from just about anywhere in Finland. The City of Jyväskylä stands at the confluence of numerous trunk roads (highway 4, E75, 9, E63, 13 and 23), so road connections from elsewhere in Finland are quick and easy. The distance between the capital Helsinki and Jyväskylä, for example, is approximately 270 km.

By railway

Jyväskylä’s Travel Centre connects the railway station and the long distance coach station. The trains from Tampere and Helsinki arrives about every two hours. At its shortest, the travel from Helsinki takes only three hours. Timetables: www.vr.fi/eng

By bus

The timetables for the coaches can be obtained from the Travel Centre where all of the long distance coaches leave from. The journey time from Helsinki is approximately 4 hours 40 minutes. You can also get on a coach along its journey at the bus stops marked for long distance coaches. Timetables: www.matkahuolto.fi/en

By air

Jyväskylä can also be reached by air. The region’s airport is Tikkakoski, located just 20 km from city center. From Helsinki, for example, there are several flights each day. Flying time from Helsinki to Jyväskylä is roughly 40 minutes. Airport info: www.finavia.fi/airport_jyvaskyla

By boat

In the summer, you can travel by boat to Lake Päijänne in Lahti, Jämsä, and to Laukaa and Suolahti through the Keitele-Päijänne channel route.
