Jyväskylä Days 2013, 19 - 23 March

Jyväskylä´s birthday celebration is a cheerful city festival running from 19 - 23 March, 2013. Jyväskylä Days programme offers guided tours, concerts, theatre performances, free to enter programmes, lectures and exhibitions.

MUSIC AND DANCE

Everyday joy – a music moment

Have a break and enjoy the music for a while, for instance during your lunch break. Troubadour Leena Pyylampi visits in different parts of the city and brings the Jyväskylä Day’s greetings in the form of songs that tell about the moments of everyday life. The music moment includes sing along sessions as well. Please pop in just for a while or maybe a longer time.

Enjoy the action-packed rock concert for children and childlike with a touch of metal and jazz music elements. Kengaroo with its friends indian chief Wobbly Tooth, astronaut dog as well as Captain Hook can be seen on the stage. Playing and singing in the band: Pekka Malkki, Klaus Tuominen, Ilari Hämäläinen and Mikko Sirén.

Enjoy relaxed atmosphere and entertainment in an urban club environment! The evening includes following: ”Heippatirallaa Saakeli”, a folk dance performance by Katariina Hiukka and Paula Kettu (premier), “Rajoja” performance by Karoliina Lahdenperä from the famous TV series Dance (1st season), Taru Miettinen and musician Ossi Valpio. In addition, the evening showcases short films by Film Centre of Central Finland. Duration 1,5 h, please note that the event is not allowed under 18s.

A guided tour in the renovated and restored City Hall of Jyväskylä offers a possibility to meet the history and present of the city hall. During the tour you will get to know how the city hall’s old premises have turned to be meeting rooms for city council, city board and council groups today.

Entrance for people with reduced mobility using the Poliisikamari doors, lift to the 1st floor. Please inform your arrival the Jyväskylä Region Tourist Office in advance.
A tour takes around 45minutes.

CITY IN a FESTIVE MOOD

The 60th Anniversary of Vesilinna lookout tower

One the significant landmark of Jyväskylä is the Vesilinna lookouttower located in Harju Ridge, a popular green area in the centre of the city.

The Vesilinna lookouttower and its belfry reach 60 years of age this year. A book of the history of the Vesilinna and its famous clock will be published. During the event of launching off the book of Vesilinna lookout tower presentations by Veikko Ahoniemi, a specialist on the history of clocks and Museum of Central Finland’s researcher Saija Silén will be held .

Enjoy the view from the Vesilinna lookout tower as well as visit the Natural History Museum of Central Finland located in the downstairs (open at 11-18).
