International Summer School for Students of Architecture, Jyväskylä, 9-18 August 2007
– Residents Given an Active Role in Participation
The 13th summer school for students of architecture and community planning will take place in Jyväskylä, just south of the Lounaispuisto park, on 9-18 August 2007. The summer school is co-organised by the Jyväskylä Urban Planning Department, the Helsinki University of Technology’s Centre for Urban and Regional Studies (YTK) and the International Federation for Housing and Planning (IFHP).
This year, the theme for the summer school will be “Local Identity and Globalisation: Global Edge”.
The summer school will be attended by approximately 20 students from different countries from around the world. The students will divide into small groups and look at the edge of the city centre at the western end of Hannikaisenkatu, searching for new solutions for the future development of the area. The work will mostly take place in the premises of Kumppanuustalo, located in Vapaudenkatu 4.
The summer school’s official opening ceremony will be held on 10 August at 1 PM in the Seitti room
at Kumppanuustalo. After the ceremony, residents and the students will join for a walk through the planning area. An interim critique of the practical work will be held on 13 August at 2.15 PM in the working studio at Kumppanuustalo. The final public critique will take place on 17 August at 1 PM at Kumppanuustalo.
The summer school will be presided over by Ksenija Hiel, an architect and professor at the University of Novi Sad in Serbia, and architect Anne Sandelin, from the City of Jyväskylä Urban Planning Department. The tutors will also include other professionals from the Urban Planning Department.
Residents and guests are most welcome to attend all events. Residents are also invited to visit the students’ working studio and observe the planning process and its products. Participants of the summer school will be present at the studio all day.
