Sinfonia Finlandia Jyväskylä’s Autumn 2009: International visitors and a tour around Spain
September 2009
Sinfonia Finlandia Jyväskylä begins the autumn season on 2nd of September with a concert entitled Masters, which includes works by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff lead by the orchestra’s conductor Patrick Gallois who will continue working with the orchestra in the future.
Wednesday 16th of September Dutch violinist Simone Lamsma will perform with the orchestra. The young violinist’s impressive career includes performances with symphony orchestras from around the world (London Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of Malaysia…) with some of the most praised conductors (Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Allin Vlasenko, Eri Klas…).
Ms. Lamsma has chosen as her solo performance Concerto for violin and orchestra no. 8 by Louis Spohr. Lamsma’s interpretation of the concerto might be familiar to some listeners from the critically acclaimed Louis Spohr recording which Sinfonia Finladia Jyväskylä published last spring. Other works to be performed at the concert include Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony no. 2 and Walter Piston’s Sinfonietta. The concert will be lead by violinist and conductor Jaakko Kuusisto.
On 23rd of September the orchestra will perform a concert entitled Stories of Music, in which one will hear the works of Gioacchino Rossini, Pekka Kostiainen, Ignace Joseph Pleyel and Pyotr Tchaikovsky, lead by the orchestra’s own conductor.
October 2009
An interesting musical crossover will be heard on 7th of October: Finnish rock singers Timo Rautiainen and Jarkko Martikainen will perform with the orchestra at a concert entitled “On the borderline”, lead by conductor Atso Almila. The concert is a great opportunity to hear how a symphony orchestra plays rock music.
The orchestra will accompany the Jyväskylä Violin Competition on 21st of October conducted by Ari Rasilainen and on 28th of October the orchestra will celebrate the music of composer Jaakko Linjama.
November 2009
On 4th of November the orchestra will perform the All Saints’ Day Requiem with Jussi Merikanto (baritone) and Chamber Choir Cantinovum, lead by conductor Rita Varonen. The concert includes the music of Maurice Ravel, Peteris Vasks and Hreidar Ingi Thorsteisson.
Before the Spanish tour, Sinfonia Finlandia Jyväskylä will perform two concerts in Jyväskylä and Joensuu alongside the Joensuu City Orchestra. The concerts will take place on 18th and 19th of November in which one will hear the Italian pianist Maurizio Moretti who is one of the finest interpreters of the renowned Italian school of pianoforte. During his career, Mr. Moretti has performed at some of the most famous concert halls around the world (Vienna, Berlin, Milan, Madrid…) with some of the most famous orchestras (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Moscow Symphony Orchestra…).
After the two concerts, the orchestra will start their third tour of Spain. Details of the tour’s venues and dates will be announced later on our website (www.sinfoniafinlandia.fi). In the past, Sinfonia Finlandia Jyväskylä has performed in several countries (France, Japan, Poland, Nordic Countries…) as a part of their international performance program.
December 2009
The 9th and 10th of December will hear the orchestra perform concerts entitled the Magic of Mozart, which includes exclusively the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. During the Magic of Mozart, the orchestra is proud to perform with Pierre Amoyal (violin and conductor) and Yuko Shimizu Amoyal (viola). The two concerts will include the overture Der Schauspieldirektor, Sinfonia Concertante for violin, viola and orchestra and Symphony no. 40. In this concert, one can expect to hear astounding interpretations of Mozart’s celebrated work.
The autumn season of the Sinfonia Finlandia Jyväskylä will end with their Christmas concert, entitled Dreams of Christmas, on 16th of December.
