Magic of Mozart, a concert celebrating the master-composer

Sinfonia Finlandia Jyväskylä (Jyväskylä Sinfonia) will perform with Pierre Amoyal (conductor) and Yuko Shimizu Amoyal (viola) in a two-concert-series entitled Magic of Mozart. The first concert will be held at the Jyväskylä City Theatre on Wednesday 9th of December and the second on Thursday 10th of December in Suolahtihall in the city of Äänekoski.

The concert will contain exclusively the music of the master-composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The overture from the one-act musical comedy, or singspiel, Der Schauspieldirektor, Sinfonia concertante for violin, viola and orchestra and Symphony no. 40 will be the concerts’ musical repertoire.

The overture was composed in 1786 and its function is to usher the listener to the cheerful spirit of the singspiel, and it has been said that the music of the overture reflects this cheerfulness quite perfectly.

Sinfonia concertante (E-flat) is from the year 1779. It is said, that a couple years earlier, Mozart had the chance to enjoy the hospitality of the conductor of the Mannheim orchestra. During his visit to the city, Mozart “inhaled” the artistic influences of the city’s atmosphere, for example the form concertante and the famous Mannheimian orchestral crescendo which can be heard in his 1779 composition.

Contemporaries of Mozart feared the music of the 40th symphony, mainly because of its dark and grim shades, but one can say that time has faded this “dark side” over the symphony’s music, and for example Robert Schumann emphasized the charm of the symphony’s music.
