Young swimmers from Jyväskylä have a successful trip to Denmark
The traditional sporting event for young people from Nordic friendship cities took place in Esbjerg, Denmark from 24 to 27 June 2010. Sport exchange in different types of sport has been arranged continuously in Nordic friendship cities since 1975. This summer, swimming was the featured event.
A 12-member swimming team from Jyväskylä
The swimming associations Swimming Jyväskylä ry and Vaajakosken Uimaseura ry were in charge of assembling Jyväskylä’s team. Jyväskylä was represented by a total of 18 people, of which 12 were swimmers. The successful trip was led by Marja-Leena Oinonen, HR Manager for Education Services of the City of Jyväskylä.
Participants from four countries
The event was attended by teams from Esbjerg (Denmark), Eskilstuna (Sweden), Stavanger (Norway), and Jyväskylä. Team standings were as follows: 1) Esbjerg 2) Eskilstuna 3) Stavanger 4) Jyväskylä.
Nordic sport exchange in Jyväskylä in summer 2011 – track and field
At the Nordic conference held in Esbjerg on 26 June 2010, Jyväskylä handed out invitations to the Nordic friendship city sporting event of 2011 in Jyväskylä, which will be held from 30 June to 4 July 2011. The event will take place at the Harju Stadium in Jyväskylä, with track and field as the featured event, and the age group will be 16 year olds.
Nordic sport exchange since 1975
Nordic sport exchange first took place in 1975, with Jyväskylä as the location. The following sports have been the featured event in past years: swimming, track and field, horseback riding, table tennis, weightlifting, orienteering, volleyball, tennis, badminton, artistic gymnastics, basketball, sailing, football, shooting, judo, golf, ice hockey, karate, and floorball.
Esbjerg has been a friendship city of Jyväskylä since 1947.
