Kuva: Juha SuutariAt the request of the Protocol Services department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the City of Jyväskylä coordinated a provincial visit for the ambassadors of 13 countries on 7–8 September 2017. Some of the am-bassadors were accompanied by their spouses. This is the largest number of foreign ambassadors to have visited Jyväskylä at one time.

The following countries were represented: Malaysia, Iran, Italy, Japan, Israel, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Greece, Indonesia, Argentina, Sweden, Germany and Palestine.

“A visit by such a large group of foreign ambassadors is significant for Jyväskylä. We receive guests, including ambassadors, throughout the year, but this is the largest number of foreign ambassadors we have hosted at the same time. We had the opportunity to familiarise them with the strengths of the Jyväskylä region and to have interesting discussions,” says Timo Koivisto, Mayor of Jyväskylä.
The ambassadors also met Meri Lumela, Chair of the City Board. During the discussions, the ambassadors expressed their appreciation of the functionality of Finnish society and its high level of technology, as well as the natural environment and peaceful nature.

During their visit, the ambassadors learned about the spearhead projects of the City of Jyväskylä, among other aspects, and visited the Jyväskylä Centre for Interdisciplinary Brain Research, the Varjola holiday resort in Laukaa, and Valtra in Äänekoski. They also got to know the Tommi Mäkinen racing team and visited the Alvar Aalto Museum on Friday, at the end of their visit.
The visit also served as a networking opportunity for the ambassadors.
