Closing conference of the Youth Unemployment vs. Skill Shortage project in Potsdam on 7–10 March 2017

A conference on youth unemployment was held in Potsdam, Jyväskylä's twin town in Germany, on 7–10 March 2017. The conference covered the unemployment of young people, and the development of the situation in the participating towns during the past year. Representatives of each town gave presentations of youth services to support jobseeking, and choice of profession and studies.

Potsdam, the host town, had also arranged interesting meetings on the theme. The participants were able to visit a local job centre and vocational school of technology. It was especially interesting to hear more about the German vocational education system, as it is strongly based on internship agreements with employers.

In addition to representatives of the employment services of Jyväskylä and the University of Jyväskylä, representatives of the City of Potsdam, Potsdam BBAG (association of foreigners living in Potsdam) and the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce took part in the conference. There were also experts from other twin towns of Potsdam, i.e. Opole, Poland; Perugia, Italy; Graz, Austria; Versailles, France; and Lucerne, Switzerland.

The Potsdam conference was the final event in the Youth Unemployment vs. Skill Shortage project of the City of Potsdam. The project is partly funded by the EU Europe for Citizens programme.

Jyväskylä and Potsdam have been twin towns since 1985.
