Frame and the City of Jyväskylä present the architecture of Alvar Aalto at the Venice Biennale

The exhibition is open to the public from 13 May to 26 November 2017

This year, visitors to the Finnish pavilion at the Venice Biennale can take part in daily tours which present the history of the pavilion designed by Alvar Aalto in 1956 and the gems of Alvar Aalto in Jyväskylä, the city that features Aalto’s most significant architectural works. These tours are part of the partnership of Frame Contemporary Art Finland and the City of Jyväskylä at the 57th international art exhibition in Venice. The objectives of the partnership are to promote culture-related travel in Jyväskylä, the principal city of Alvar Aalto, and celebrate the Finnish pavilion, which recently celebrated its 60th anniversary.

Alvar Aalto (1898–1975) started and ended his long career in Jyväskylä, and Jyväskylä features the most significant buildings designed by Aalto in the world. His 28 designs include the Alvar Aalto Museum, the Muuratsalo Experimental House, Muurame Church, and Säynätsalo Town Hall, which is regarded as one of Aalto’s most notable buildings.
