Harju Stadium in Jyväskylä is being renovated and its services upgraded
The City of Jyväskylä has launched a planning project for the Harju area. The aim of this project is to develop and upgrade the services and facilities at Harju Stadium.
The sports ground, built in 1925–1926 and the first of its kind in our city, has seen many renovations and facelifts over the years. “The fact is that the stadium has become outdated and does not always meet the demands for a modern sports stadium,” says Jouni Vilkman, Facilities Development Manager at the City of Jyväskylä.
The centrally located stadium offers a venue for athletics and football, among other sports. The stadium and its environs have also hosted several other events, championship tournaments and competitions. Now that JJK Jyväskylä football club has been promoted to the premier division in Finnish football, Veikkausliiga, the stadium draws increasingly large crowds on match days. The 2018 Finnish Championships in Athletics will set its own standards for development of the area.
