Artwork produced in community art project to be displayed in Sepänaukio square in Jyväskylä and Friendship Park in Yaroslavl, Russia

In autumn 2016, the design of an artwork to be displayed at the junction of Sepänkatu and Rajakatu will start in Tikkala and Keski-Palokka schools. The junction will be renovated next winter, and mosaic art made by students will be demonstrated in the new underpass in spring 2017. The communal Sepänkeidas art project will continue in autumn 2017 in a more international sense, as students from Jyväskylä and Yaroslavl set up pillar art in Sepänpuisto park in Jyväskylä under the guidance of artists Pertti Karjalainen and Tuomas Hallivuo.

Joint art project of Jyväskylä and Yaroslavl 2014–2017

In 2014–2015, students from Yaroslavl Art School No. 4 set up pillar art, under the guidance of artist Pertti Karjalainen, in the Friendship Park located in the centre of Yaroslavl. In summer 2016, paths were constructed connecting the 13 pillars in the Friendship Park in Yaroslavl. In addition, four tintamarresque pieces were set up in the park. The opening ceremony of the park was held on 20 June 2016, for which students from Jyväskylä had also prepared performances.

Yaroslavl and Jyväskylä have been twin cities since 1966.
