Jyväskylä On the Move – Smart, Safe & Sustainable

Jyväskylä, a city in southern Finland, is to be showcased for the first time at the leading real estate and investment event MIPIM 2015 held in Cannes, France, from 10 to 13 March 2015 under the theme ‘Jyväskylä on the Move – Smart, Safe & Sustainable’.

The main attraction is the impressive Kangas area, a development project currently underway in the heart of Jyväskylä, a youthful university city and growth centre offering a wealth of opportunities. The City of Jyväskylä is constantly looking for new sustainable and smart solutions in bioeconomy,
wise use of resources and cyber security.

At the event, Jyväskylä seeks to attract the attention of foreign investors and real estate developers. “We are here to establish new real estate investment, urban development and business contacts, seeking to find interesting partners and projects for further networking,” says the Mayor Timo Koivisto. “One of the main areas the City of Jyväskylä invests in is sustainable development in urban planning. Jyväskylä also provides an excellent range of services for growing companies seeking to establish their operations in the region. We also have unique expertise in distinct fields such as cyber security, wise use of resources and bioeconomy.” The Kangas area is one of the city’s top development projects. Located in the heart of Jyväskylä, the former paper mill site becomes an innovative hub area for companies, jobs and homes, with new construction commencing in the autumn of 2015.

“The Kangas area is a unique development project not only in Finland but also on a European scale,” says the Director of Urban Planning Projects Anne Sandelin. “The area combines new technology with sustainable and safe solutions. Kangas provides a wealth of opportunities for new investors and companies. In MIPIM we seek to establish new networks through which investors and companies could extend their operations to the Jyväskylä region.”

The other urban development projects showcased at the event are the areas of Hippos Sport and Wellbeing Hub, Hospital Hill and Jyväskylä’s city centre. The Hippos Sport and Wellbeing Hub and Hospital Hill projects are spearheading Jyväskylä’s expertise in welfare.

Jyväskylä appearing in the Helsinki–Finland joint stand

In MIPIM Jyväskylä appears in the Helsinki–Finland stand that, in addition to Jyväskylä, also showcases the cities of Helsinki, Espoo, Tampere, Turku and Kotka under Helsinki’s lead. Four construction, project management and real estate investment related companies are also participating: SRV, YIT, Skanska and company HGR Property Partners. In addition to cities and companies, present at the stand are also the Team Finland network and the service and expert organization Invest in Finland.

This year, the MIPIM trade fair (Le Marché International des Professionnels de I’IMmobilier) attracts around 20,000 visitors as well as some 2,300 companies, regions and cities from 93 different countries as exhibitors. Around 1,700 investor companies are also attending. The fair partnership facilitates many practical matters and is a very affordable means of getting visi-bility in such a high-profile event. At the event, Jyväskylä is presented by Mayor Timo Koivisto, Director of Urban Planning Projects Anne Sandelin, Kangas Project Manager Tanja Oksa and Satu Freyberg, Director of International Services from Jyväskylä Regional Development Company Jykes Ltd.
