Jyväskylä Medal to architect Ilkka Halinen for his long career with the City of Jyväskylä

The City Board of Jyväskylä has granted the 2014 Jyväskylä Medal to architect Ilkka Halinen for his long career with the City of Jyväskylä.

Ilkka Halinen's strong input has enabled Jyväskylä to arrange more Finnish and international architecture competitions than any other city outside the Helsinki metropolitan area.

Halinen has participated in international cooperation in architecture with many significant architects and organisations. For instance Ranko Radovic and International Federation for Housing and Planning –network’s architectural summer schools in Jyväskylä 1996-2006 and co-operation with architect Peter Zumthor who designed the Harjunkulma 2002 – 2004.

In addition, he has contributed to international projects and collaborations: Cost 9 –project, Reaching Urban Quality 2000-2005, Potsdam –project (EU) Management of Regional Information System 1998-2000, Nordic City Network 2005-2009 and Union of Baltic Cities, Urban Planning Commission 2009-2014.

Between 1967 and 2013, the City of Jyväskylä has granted a total of 25 Jyväskylä Medals, with the first having been awarded to Alvar Aalto.
