Light artists chosen for Jyväskylä-led Nordic Light event in Eskilstuna, Sweden

The networking and expo event for light artists to be held in the Swedish city of Eskilstuna on October 25th attracted applications from 42 light artists by close of call.

On the basis of the applications the expert jury, consisting of representatives of the City of Jyväskylä, Jyväskylä Art Museum, the Central Finland district of Pohjola-Norden - The Norden Association, Stockholm Konst and Stockholm County Council decided to choose 8 artists, who will enjoy an opportunity to exhibit their works at the event.

– The Finnish participants are Arto Heiskanen (Tampere), Joonas Saaranen (Tampere) and Kari Alonen (Jyväskylä), reveals Elli Räsänen, Coordinator of Jyväskylä’s City of Light project which leads the Nordic Light project. In her view the Nordic Light project is aimed at supporting opportunities for Nordic lighting artists to develop an international profile and boosting international interest in Nordic light art as a whole.

Occasion to showcase artwork and network

The 8 deserving artists selected for the event will each show their own portfolio in Eskilstuna on October 25th. The event will include a panel discussion with experts from the field of light art.

Examples of Nordic lighting art will be on show as part of the international Light in the City lighting branch conference to be held in Eskilstuna from October 23rd-25th. The programme also includes practice-oriented workshops, a Guerrilla Lighting happening and a guided tour of the city’s illuminated locations.

The unifying goal of these activities is to promote the principles of sustainable development in the way outdoor lighting is organised and to create opportunities for participating municipal decision-makers, lighting branch professionals and actors in other fields to become networked.
