New Pupil and Student Welfare Act increases preventive work

New operational models will be implemented in the City of Jyväskylä's pre-primary education, schools and other educational institutions on 1 August 2014 due to entry into force of the new Pupil and Student Welfare Act. The new act ensures that children and young people have the right for individual pupil and student welfare.

In practice this means that in the future pupils and students must be provided with an opportunity to talk personally with a psychologist or a school social worker within seven work days after this has been requested and, in urgent cases, the same or the following day. When needed, the child or the young person will be referred to other pupil and student welfare services. There must also be an opportunity to visit a school nurse without making an appointment.
