Healthcare services

In Finland everybody is entitled to basic health care. Municipalities provide services for all agegroups, from children's daycare to the treatment and care of the elderly. In Jyväskylä these services are administered by the Centre for Social and Health Services. Their services cover among other things health care and doctors as well as pre- and post-natal care.
Children and students enjoy school and college health care with regular yearly check-ups. Dental care covers almost the entire population at the moment. There is also help available for those suffering from different kinds of social problems. The financing of the services is covered by tax incomes and fees collected by the users for some special services.

Jyväskylä has comprehensive and good-quality public healthcare. The public healthcare services are divided into basic healthcare and specialised healthcare. In Finland, the municipality of residence is responsible for providing healthcare services in the municipality area.

Every resident of the municipality is entitled to obtain healthcare services provided by the municipal health centres. Examples of basic healthcare include maternity clinics and child health clinics, hospital care, rehabilitation, mental health services, dental care, patient transportation, and school healthcare. Jyväskylä has a healthcare centre hospital maintained by the city.
